COUNTY OF ROWAN In the Name of God Amen, I, William Steelman of the County of Rowan and State of North Carolina Being of Perfect Mind and Memory and Calling to Mind that it is appointed unto Man once to Die and after Death to come to Judgment - I submit my Soul to God who gave it and my Body to the Dust from whence it came to be Decently Buried at the Discretion of my Friends and Executors hereafter named and as to my Worldly goods which it Hath Pleased God to Bless me with my Will and Desire is to Dispose of them in the Manner following: I give unto William Steelman & Catherine Davis’ Children - -Heirs of my Son Charles Steelman the sum of five Dollars to William & five Dollars to Catherine’s Children, and no more. I give unto Elizabeth Hubbard heir of my daughter Catherine, who intermarried with Thomas Whitlock, the sum of five Dollars & no more. I give unto my Beloved wife Catherine Steelman the tract of Land whereon I now live being 321 acres, also 153 acres adjoining the same lying in Surry County. Also one Negro man, Amos, one woman, Edy, one Negro boy, Zingo, one small Mulatto Girl Sindy, one Negro boy Tilman, one Negro child, a girl Nisshe, and all their increase hereafter, if any. Also all my stock and moveable property of every description. All of which Land & Negros & other property to be her sole right and property forever. After the paying all my Just Debts & the two first Mentioned Small Legacies. 4th I give unto my son, William Steelman, all the rest & residue of my Landed Estate both in Rowan and Surry Counties. Also one Negro woman, Rhoda, one Negro boy Jerry, one Negro boy, Sampson, one Negro boy, Stephen, one Negro girl Hannah, & one small Negro child Harriett with all their increase, if any, all of which my Will & Desire is to be and Remain in the Possession of my wife until my son, William, arrives at full age if she remains my widow until my son comes of age and for my said wife to raise and educate my son William well, upon the procedures of his Estate and my further will is that if my son William should die before he arrives to the age of twenty one years that then all the Estate, both real & personal which I have given to Him shall go and descend to my said wife Catherine in the same manner as the other Estate which I have before given her. I doe hereby Constitute this to be my Last Will and Testament, revoking all other wills by me heretofore made and I doe constitute and appoint my Trusty Friends Frederick May and Samuel Spier my whole and Sole Executors of this my Last Will and Testament.
